Gently exfoliate the day before (not the day of) your appointment. Avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day as they can make skin more sensitive. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 minutes before if you're concerned about discomfort. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, especially for intimate waxing.
Don't worry, your comfort is my priority! I maintain complete professionalism while creating a relaxed atmosphere. I'll talk you through each step, work efficiently, and you can always ask me to pause if needed. Remember, this is my job and there's really nothing to be embarrassed about. As a neurodivergent-friendly studio, I'm also happy to adjust lighting, play calming music, or work in silence – whatever helps you feel most at ease.
While everyone's pain tolerance is different, most clients find it's not nearly as bad as they expected. The first time is usually the most uncomfortable as the hair is strongest. Regular waxing becomes easier as hair grows back finer and sparser. I use professional techniques to minimize discomfort, work quickly and efficiently, and the sharp discomfort only lasts seconds. Many clients say the results are absolutely worth it.
Hair should ideally be about ¼ inch long (roughly the length of a grain of rice) – about 2-3 weeks of growth after shaving. If it's too short, the wax can't grip properly; if it's too long, I can trim it before waxing. Don't worry about getting it perfect – I'll let you know if we need to adjust anything.
Yes, you can have any waxing treatment during your period. For intimate waxing, please use a fresh tampon or cup. Be aware that skin can be more sensitive during this time, so you might experience slightly more discomfort than usual.
For approximately 24 hours after your wax your pores will still be open, and your skin will be sensitive, so it is important to follow this advice to avoid irritation;
-Avoid heat (such as hot baths and showers, saunas and steams, UV exposure) and friction (such as tight clothing, exercise).
-Avoid applying products to the area such as deodorant, perfumed products, lotions, exfoliants, etc.
-Only use very mild unperfumed soaps, shower gels and cleansers
Longer term, to avoid unpleasant aftereffects such as ingrown hair, it is important to follow aftercare advice;
-Moisturise daily. Ingrown hair can be caused by dry or flaky skin.
-Exfoliate twice a week, starting a few days after your appointment. Do not exfoliate more often than this unless you are advised to, as over-exfoliation can also lead to ingrown hairs.
-Products containing antiseptic ingredients such as tea tree oil or witch hazel are particularly useful.
