How Massage Can Support Stress and Anxiety

Stress often shows up physically in the body. Tight shoulders, headaches, restless sleep and general fatigue are all common signs that the nervous system has been under pressure for a while.

Many clients visiting my studio in Southampton book massage specifically because they want their body to slow down and reset.

How massage helps the nervous system

Massage encourages the body to shift out of “fight or flight” mode and into a more relaxed state. This can help muscles soften, breathing slow down and overall tension decrease.

Physical tension and emotional stress

Stress is often stored in areas such as the neck, shoulders and jaw. Massage works directly with these areas, helping reduce muscle tension and improve circulation.

Massage and deep relaxation

Some clients find that longer massage sessions allow the body to relax more deeply. Treatments that include face and scalp work can also be particularly calming.

Relaxing facials can offer similar benefits for people who prefer a treatment focused more on the face, helping encourage the body to settle and unwind.

Massage appointments take place at The Rainbow Studio in Southampton in a calm, private studio designed for one-to-one treatments.
